Author

Graham Greene

Graham Greene was an English novelist and author, widely regarded as one of the greatest writers of the 20th century. Combining literary acclaim with widespread popularity, Greene had acquired a reputation early in his own lifetime as a great writer, both of serious Catholic novels and of thrillers (or "entertainments " as he termed them). Through 67 years of writings which included over 25 novels, he explored the ambivalent moral and political issues of the modern world through a Catholic perspective.

'One of the most true and moving novels of my time, in anybody's language.'
William Faulkner

Set in London during and just after the Second World War, The End of The Affair examines the obsessions, jealousy and discernments of a twisted love triangle.

The love affair between Maurice Bendrix and his best friend's wife, Sarah, flourishing in the turbulent times of the London Blitz, ends when she suddenly and without explanation breaks it off. After a chance meeting rekindles his love and jealousy two years later, Bendrix hires a private detective to follow Sarah, and slowly his love for her turns into an obsession.

'A deliciously uncomfortable read for anyone who's allowed their heart to rule their head.'
Psychologies

'In a class by himself ... the ultimate chronicler of twentieth-century man's consciousness and anxiety.'
William Golding
