From Australia's queen of fiction comes a page-turning story of family secrets and lies.

The valley is nestled between rugged peaks, divided by a magnificent river. Within its peaceful green contours are held the secrets of generations of tribes, families and loners who have come under its spell. But some secrets are never shared, never told. Until one woman returns and begins asking questions ... and discovers the story of a forgotten valley pioneer whose life becomes entwined with hers. But in looking into her own family's history she uncovers more than she ever expected – and what her mother hoped would always remain a secret.

"This Australian saga sweeps along as each generation's story comes alive with personalities and visual descriptions of the land. The legends and myths that bind the story relate both to the white ranchers' arrival and to the Aboriginal knowledge that is treated by consecutive generations as either a fabulous asset or a dangerous taboo. There are several storylines running through the novel, and they do not necessarily end up converging, but Kate Hood's various voices add richness to the variety of experiences. Whether reading of murderous criminals bent on destroying Isabella Kelly, one of the original settlers, or a 21st century architect bent on developing the valley, Hood maintains the listener's attention."
AudioFile Magazine

‘The Valley is a long, juicy page-turner, a generational saga that flows resistently.’
