Polly Williams

Author

Polly Williams

I've written stories and poems since I was a kid, and am delighted that making up stories is now my 'proper job.' Before I started writing fiction, I was a journalist - I still freelance for magazines and newspapers - but I always planned to write a book 'one day'. My moment came after the birth of my first child. I thought, shit, it's now or never! That sense of urgency - and my experiences as a new mother - all fed into my first novel, the internationally bestselling, The Rise and Fall of a Yummy Mummy. I've since written six more novels, my latest, Husband, Missing is out in paperback in March. I also have two more kids, the same husband, too many books, not enough time, and many good intentions.

'Fun, laughter and tears blend with love, lust and a tangle of misunderstandings in this splendid romp about today's mothers-in-waiting.'
SHE magazine

The story of two women who think they're ready to settle down – but have they found the right man?

Two weeks before her wedding Stevie Jonson has got the jitters. Is she finally growing up, or compromising horribly? In love or in denial? Yes, there are good reasons to get married. Babies, or at least the possibility of babies before eggs shrivel up. Sex whenever she wants it. A justification for staying in without feeling like a loser. Contentment, the shave-legs-in-front-of-him kind. And there are very good reasons not to get married. Not wanting to sleep with him unless nothing on telly. Never sleeping with anyone else ever again. His mother. His new bald patch. Being called, 'my wife.' And the disconcerting reappearance of a former major crush, reminder of everything fiancé isn't. As the clock ticks, a shocking secret threatens to bring Stevie's future crashing down around her. A hilarious and heartfelt story about love, marriage and mating and what happens when they refuse to schedule.
