Author

Sheila Newberry

I write family sagas, latterly for Robert Hale. There are always children in my books because we brought up nine children in our “Knee Deep in Plums” days, and they are my inspiration! Now, we have twenty-three grandchildren too. My stories are mainly about rural life at the turn of the last century, covering the first world war and the 1920’s. I also write about WW2 and London then, and during the late Victorian era. I am a tender writer, shall I say, and I laugh and cry with my characters as they cope with life. I never know the ending of my stories until I reach that point - and then suddenly it is there. I joined the RNA in 1996 and enjoy the enthusiasm and encouragement of my fellow writers. I write memoirs too. My books are all on Amazon. I can be contacted through Hale and would be pleased to hear from readers.

A heart-warming novel from the Queen of family saga, Sheila Newberry.

London, 1888. Abandoned by her mother at the age of seven, Jerusha Carey is no stranger to being left behind. Eleven years later she is married to Dan Applebee, an older, reliable farmer from Kent. Jerusha believes she has finally found the security she has always craved. But then disaster strikes. Kent, 1904. Two years after the sudden death of her husband, Jerusha is alone once again. But the arrival of the enigmatic Joe Finch, a traveler seeking work on the farm and a home for his daughter, sets Jerusha's life on a new path, giving her hope for her future. Has Jerusha found her happy ending at last, or will she be forever destined to lose the ones she loves?

'... a Sheila Newberry book is like having dinner with your mother in her warm and cosy kitchen. You can feel the love and care put into every juicy morsel.'
Diane Allen, bestselling author of For the Sake of Her Family
