International bestseller

Winner Ned Kelly Award / Best Fiction 2001

“Outstanding.”
Australian Book Review

“With Peter Temple, Australian crime fiction finally comes of age. This is as good as it gets.”
The Sunday Age

The classic thriller by the four-time Ned Kelly Award winner.

Jack Irish - lawyer, gambler and people-finder - is hunting down the villains who hijacked the winnings from his latest betting coup when he is hired by a mystery client to find missing barman Robbie Colbourne. But Robbie turns up dead of a drug overdose...

“Peter Temple's latest thriller grows on the listener. Although it begins slowly, the third Jack Irish novel features a broad range of characters, many of whom appear for a few moments, disappear, and then suddenly reappear. At its core, the story focuses on P.I. Irish's efforts to locate the killer of Robbie Colbourne. With its array of characters and subplots, the book is an excellent vehicle for narrator Michael Carman, whose effective use of tone permits listeners to keep track of all the characters without losing sight of the story. Carman's light and warm voice is a good fit, and he paces the material well. It's as if he can imagine listeners poised over their scorecards.”
AudioFile Magazine

"Characterisation, dialogue and the quality of the prose are all top-class"
The Sunday Telegraph

“Peter Temple has been described as one of Australia's best crime novelists, but he's far better than that. He's one of our best novelists full stop.”
The Sun-Herald
