Truth is a novel about a man, a family, a city. It is about violence, murder, love, corruption, honour and deceit. And it is about truth.

At the close of a long day, Inspector Stephen Villani stands in the bathroom of a luxury apartment high above the city. In the glass bath, a young woman lies dead, a panic button within reach. Villani's life is his work. It is his identity, his calling, his touchstone. But now, over a few sweltering summer days, as fires burn across the state and his superiors and colleagues scheme and jostle, he finds all the certainties of his life are crumbling.

'Temple writes with a rare clarity that grabs and holds from the start. There is no meandering here, no cluttering of precious words; each one hits the mark.'
The Courier Mail

"While Melbourne's Head of Homicide Stephen Villani struggles to investigate a spate of new murders, he also faces issues in his family life that rock his personal foundations. Rich dialogue, filled with Australian idioms, is bought to life by Michael Carman. His characterizations of the key players help listeners to follow the complex plot in this tense thriller about power and corruption. Carman's delivery balances straight narration and performance as he gives authenticity to the robust language and gritty descriptions of the murders. This helps to engage the listener—although non-Aussies may find some of the slang difficult to follow."
AudioFile Magazine

"What makes Temple so compelling is his divine use of language. The novel is written with grace and subtlety, elegant but also violent, dark and yet suffused with sympathy for the protagonists, cast in dialogue that is both distinctive and surprising."
The Daily Mail

'Truth is both confronting and electrifying. It is Temple's best book.'
The Age

'Temple writes superbly with great visual acuity and moral intelligence...his spare, terse prose is lightened with images full of a quirky, unselfconscious poetry.'
The Adelaide Advertiser

'Temple's prose is terse and potent, with all the torque of a truck engine….It's one to savour.'
The Australian Financial Review

'Temple is Australia's premier crime writer because his skill is words. His characters are convincingly established and his observations of Melbourne's manners, milieus and mores are spot on…as soon as I put it down I wanted to read it again.'
The Herald Sun

'Peter Temple is arguably our leading writer of crime fiction, if not one of Australia's best novelists regardless of genre.'
The Canberra Times
