Bestselling author

'The wit of Wilde, the lightness of Wodehouse, the waspishness of Waugh. A joy.'
Zadie Smith, author of Swing Time

Some Hope finds Patrick qualified as a barrister and speaking for the first time about the damage in his past, searching for redemption amidst a crowd of glittering social dragonflies whose vapidity is the subject of his most stinging and memorable barbs.

Patrick Melrose, cleaned-up and world-weary, is a reluctant guest at a glittering party deep in the English countryside. Amid a crowd of flitting social dragonflies, he finds his search for redemption and capacity for forgiveness challenged by his observation of the cruelties around him. Armed with his biting wit and a newly fashioned openness, can Patrick, who has been to the furthest limits of experience and back again, find release from the savageries of his childhood?

'Humour, pathos, razor-sharp judgement, pain, joy and everything in between. The Melrose novels are a masterwork for the 21st century, by one of our greatest prose stylists.'
Alice Sebold

'The Melrose novels are remarkable – ferociously funny, painfully acute and exhilaratingly written. A brilliantly controlled story of a life sent out of control.'
The Sunday Times

'Our purest living prose stylist.'
The Guardian

'St Aubyn’s prose has an easy charm that masks a ferocious, searching intellect. One of the finest writers of his generation.'
The Times
