Phil Earle

Narrator

Phil Earle

Phil Earle was born, raised and schooled in Hull. His first job was as a care worker in a children's home, an experience that influenced the ideas behind Being Billy. He then trained as a drama therapist and worked in a therapeutic community in south London, caring for traumatized and abused adolescents. After a couple of years in the care sector, Phil chose the more sedate lifestyle of a bookseller, and now works in children's publishing.

Can a boy possibly save the animals and lead them all to the promised land? A thrilling of adventure involving a stolen ark, a motley crew of animals and a crashed Spitfire, from award-winning author, Phil Earle.

'Don't let anything happen to her, you hear?' September 1939. Britain is on the brink of war, and as his dad marches off to fight, Noah makes him a promise: to keep their beloved family dog safe. When the government advises people to have their pets put down in readiness for the chaos of war, hundreds of thousands of people do as they are told. But not Noah. He’s not that sort of boy. With his two friends in tow, he goes on the run, to save his dog and as many animals as he can. No matter what.

'Beautiful storytelling - adventure and a menagerie of exceptional animals.'
Gill Lewis, author of Sky Hawk

'A truly brilliant story of courage and resilience and exceptional animals. This wartime ‘Incredible journey’ (only far, far better) is definitely Phil Earle’s best yet.'
Emma Carroll, author of Letters from the Lighthouse

'The special bonds between children and animals are explored in a fresh way in this compelling wartime adventure, and Earle gives equal weight to harsh realities and deep compassion. Another stunning read from one of the most authentic storytellers writing for children today.'

‘It’s every bit as good as When the Sky Falls, and that means it’s very good indeed’
Anthony McGowan, author of Lark

'A compelling, action-packed and heartfelt story.'
